"From the past a present for the future" (PPF installation)
Mixed media - Unit 2 Gallery - London Metropolitan University, june 2010
(As part of The Cass Summer Show 15-20 june 2010) (paintings in the background by Elena Dimitrova)
What at first appears to be one unified installation breaks down into a series of items that in a different context might be purely functional, but that accrue a different identity and meaning through their shared space. Presenting itself almost like a domestic megastructure, the work is an organic accumulation of everyday objects and "events" that are somehow interconnected and tend to expand into a given space. This particular work aims to engage and challenge the psychology, expectation and perceptions of the viewer with a visual language that may look both familiar and cryptic to the onlooker but yet is dynamic, complex and embedded with aspiration, anxiety, and at times a sense of modernist failure, ambivalence and disillusionment.
